New Eyes: The details.

After Mark and I married he got LASIK to correct his vision and this many years later he still says it's some of the best money he's ever spent. So when we attended a benefit dinner for a ministry we support and saw one of the big ticket items was laser eye surgery preformed by one of the best LASIK surgeons in the country and all pre and post-op visits with one of the best optometrists in Orange County he jumped on the chance to spoil me with better-than-perfect vision as well. Here's how it went down:

~ Met with Dr. Nota at San Clemente Optometry. He did lots of easy tests to determine if LASIK was for me. (I had been told a few years ago that I wasn't a good candidate - basically because I had been pregnant or nursing a baby for, oh, six years... thus there was never a good time for me to have the procedure.) He asked what I was looking forward to most about having better vision, I told him I was really exited to be able to look across the park and see my kids and be able to tell of they're laughing or crying, something I truly couldn't do unless I had glasses on.

~ Met with "counselors" at NVISION in Newport Beach. More tests,  lots of eye drops prescribed... set date for LASIK for about a month later. (Note: Should you use NVISION, which you should, buy the eye drops from them!! It's not a scam, they really do offer the best price, trust me, I wasted so much time thinking I could find them cheaper somewhere else.)

~ 10 days before surgery started taking super good care of my eyes with loads of eye drops. I looked like an eye drop addict I was using them so often. My eyes never felt so loved.

~ Day before surgery saw Dr. Nota again to quadruple check the measurements of my eyes. Had my eyes dilated which totally freaked my kids out.

~ Day of surgery Mark and kids dropped me off at NVISION. Had the measurements of my eyes done again, yay for thoroughness!

~ About 45min later (normal wait time day of surgery) I was given half of a muscle relaxer and numbing drops for my eyes.

~ Met the famous Dr. Tooma, laid down on a table and had a huge machine put over my head. They tape down one eye and tape up the other eye. Then they said how many seconds it's going to take. My right eye wasn't so bad, 13 seconds then 8 seconds. My left eye surprised me and was like 23 seconds then 7 seconds. They have a timer going so you can count the seconds, that was really helpful.

~ It's not painful, but it doesn't feel good. Lot's of pressure. And there's a smell, of eyeball burning, but I held my breath. :) Dr. Tooma has perfected his ultra-smooth melodic speaking technique so it's all very calming.

~ Then it's done. And you stand up and see perfectly and it's crazy. You have to keep your eyes shut for like 16 hours, so I made my appointment in the later afternoon so all I had to do was go home and get in bed. That's the way to go for sure!

~ The next morning I woke up and it was pretty awesome, I couldn't get over the details I'd been missing out on! I love looking as far away as I can and still being able to see clearly. I have better than perfect vision now. I am amazed!

So yes, get it done if you can. Use Dr. Nota and Dr. Tooma. And if you really want to be awesome, attend the Focal Point Ministries benefit dinner and bid on the LASIK package. Not only will you win a lifetime of beautiful vision, but most likely knock off some of the price. Most importantly you will be helping a wonderful ministry that promotes the spreading of a biblical gospel throughout the country via  radio.

Laser your eyes and save some souls, now that's a deal!

So exciting, and recovery sounds like a breeze! Although, I have to admit that I almost passed out reading this (I have a "thing" about eyes.)
