He Is Risen!

I wanted to do a craft with the kids this Easter that was fun and significant. After looking up different crafty websites my friend Kelly thought paper mache eggs looked cute. When she showed me the picture she saw eggs, I saw a tomb! We had the Hanson fam over last Wednesday and created our egg-tombs. After the Good Friday service the kids and I put our little felt "Jesus" in the tomb. We took the tomb with us to Simi Valley and sure enough the first thing Ben asked about Sunday morning was if Jesus was still inside. OF COURSE HE WASN'T because Jesus is ALIVE! The egg-tomb became the center piece on the table with the opening kept uncovered to show everyone that Jesus is no longer in the tomb. It was a really neat way for the kids to have a little visual of a very big concept, one I hope they will grow to understand and cherish more and more every year.

After about 15 minutes Kelly and I became the egg makers.


Ben wanted to draw a face on Jesus. At first he wanted to make a sad face because "he is dead", but then he decided to make a happy face because "he is nice". I thought that was a good idea, seeing as how he doesn't stay dead for very long, and he really is very nice. :-)

VERY cute. We did the same craft, except we left the Jesus part out. :( [sigh]. no, but seriously we made the egg but put a little marshmellow birdie inside with easter egg grass. Reagan loved her little birdie nest. Of course your ressurected Jesus is MUCH better and MUCH more spiritual, and I'm sort of kicking myself for not thinking of it. But I look forward to next year so I can change it up!! :)

Sarah, what a wonderful, creative way to communicate THE MESSAGE! It is a beautiful display of your heart, the kids' joy, and God's faithfulness and love for us! Brilliant! I think it is a very marketable idea....of course you would expect the capitalism coming out of me, huh! Think about it though...Love you! dad

You are so creative. I'd love to know how you did that so we can try it next year (or maybe soon, the Easter message can be taught at anytime of the year!). I miss seeing you!! I have a very sick Braden today, but maybe we can see you later this week. Love and hugs!

I'm pretty excited because I'm not crafty, at all, but when I saw this idea on my new favorite crafty blog I got all giddy because I thought, "I can do that!" and so I did. And since my kids ARE crafty, go figure, I had all the stuff to make them on hand - yippee! All I had to do was buy the goodies that make the wings, which only cost me a dollar (thank you Dollar Tree!). I put them in the kid's little Easter buckets. I hope they like them as much I do. :-)

In a Nut Shell...

Saturday afternoon, 2pm, got home from Costco and thought I might be going into labor. Troy woke up from his nap at 3:30, sensed what was going on and was not too happy about it at all. Thinking it was pretty early, but not want wanting to take any chances, we left for the hospital a bit before 4 o'clock Yep, too early. Walked the halls for an hour which produced more of these... Which felt like this... And at 8:42pm they led to this... We are so thrilled to add a precious baby girl to our family We love you Mia Joy! (7lbs 2oz, 18.5" long)

I know that people come from good places and the intentions behind their comments are never bad, and sometimes they're actually funny, but sometimes I just want to say, um, really? Is that the BEST thing you can think of to say? Here are some of my faves from last week... "I'm going to un-friend you on facebook because you do not look like you just had a baby a week ago." - sorry? "What's her name? ... Oh I know SO MANY Mia's. Like, SO many." - great. "Are you guys finished yet? Is there some literature out there I can get for you (to teach you about prevention)?" (This one is my favorite) - "I'm the oldest of three and I am SO glad my parent's didn't have a fourth." - um... okay. This is the one I hear from almost everyone, it's not necessarily a bad thing to say, I just get it A LOT, "Two boys and two girls? Oh, the perfect family."
