Oh Pear?

No! Au Pair! As in,

au pair [oh pair]
–noun
1. a person, usually a young foreign visitor, employed to take care of children, do housework, etc., in exchange for room and board: We sent the children to the beach with the au pair.

Au pair. As in, au AWESOME. And we got one!

That's right friends. This summer we will be the proud owners (borrowers, really) of a shiny new au pair, straight from Germany! (Shiny, like a beautiful new something, not shiny like The Twins definition of shiny. Don't ask).

We are so excited to be hosting a fantastic gal for two months this summer who comes highly spoken of by Mark's parents and their very good friends. She is studying child development and was looking for a family with kids to live with for a couple of months in order to get some hands on experience and see more of California (she's been here multiple times and is fluent in English, as well as two or three other languages). And have we got kids or have we got kids? So, yes please! I will take you, sweet gal, and all of your German loveliness and you can live with us and all of our American loveliness and we will teach each other lots of wonderful things all the while eating Wurts and drinking Hefeweizen.

Ha ha Sarah! I was reading your blog next to him on the couch. He likes to sneak peeks of yours and Lol's blogs...although he would not know how to find them on his own. He did take the cumputer though and comment. It would have taken me an hour to try to type out that German maddness :)

PS - It basically translates to - Horray! Can't wait to meet her. I hope she likes to watch soccer.

Kari, sadly we don't have Miss Kelly anymore because the pot of gold that was funding her ran dry. (And Mark's mom and grandma have been coming down 1+ days a week, so I'm still getting a day off, so to speak.) We still very much love Miss Kelly and will use her agin and highly recommend her. If only that darn money tree would've bloomed this year...

And Julie, I am so honored that Kirk would make his commenting debut on my blog. The benefits of a German au pair are endless!! (Was this his first comment?? I don't even know that for a fact).

A Quick Update

We have been in Idaho just a few days shy of 7 months. That's over HALF a YEAR, people. MUCH has changed. Our daily routine? Changed. Weekend plans? Changed. People we call when we're in a jam? My New Language

My teen challenged me to a game of ping pong. Easy enough, one might think, but this particular teen has been playing for YEARS against GOOD players (my mother-in-law is a champ!). Not to mention his muscles are twice the size of mine and he's a least - dare I admit this - a solid three inches taller than I, probably four. He was so sweet when he asked, and I couldn't remember the last time he had, so of course I said yes. From the beginning he knew he could beat me. He is stronger, faster,  *sigh*  taller , and more skilled. So he, sweet thang that he is, played with his weaker hand, which honestly isn't saying much because the boy is straight up ambidextrous . The Post About School

Our family has partially or full time homeschooled for eight years. And, getting really technical, if you think of the years per kid, that's 22 years of homeschooling ! I think it's safe to say we are homeschool fans. Our decision to homeschool, initially, came from three factors: 1. Mark is a big proponent of using time wisely, and neither of us were thrilled with the use of time in our local schools. 2. We don't vaccinate, which wasn't a big deal in the beginning because BACK THEN we could just sign a waiver and it was no biggie. Then CA went all - well, Californiaish- and basically it became impossible for us to legally enroll our kids in a public school. 3. What brought homeschooling to our attention was when a family brought us a meal after Mia was born, and in walked this 8 year old boy who was kind, polite, helpful, genuine, respectful, patient, and more.
